CLAES D3E promotes sustainable development in rural areas. The center maintains diverse research projects and supports regional and local NGOs and peasant associations. Furthermore, we disseminate regularly information about critical topics and maintain press relations. We focus on social, environmental and economic aspects of the development strategies after a commitment on the quality of life of rural families.
 
Soy and meat in the South
 

CLAES D3E has just published a detailed report on the soybean and meat sectors in the Common Market of the South (Mercosur). Soybean expansion is one of the main deforestation factors. Environmental and social impacts of soybean
 

The Brazilian president Lula da Silva emitted recently a new "provisional means" which liberates transgenic soy, showing that there is hardly an effective control of farming methods (MORE by G. Evia and E. Gudynas). Detailed insights about the impacts of soy cultivations are presented in the study of soy farming in Mato Grosso, the leading Brazilian state in this sector (DOWNLOAD).
